The cross country team participated in their first meet of the season on Wednesday when they hosted nearly all of the PVAC teams. The panthers finished in FIRST place of 9 teams. Matt Laskowski (Form V) finished first, Peter Clark (Form IV) finished 5th, Alex Shipe (Form V) finished 11th , Hollis Howe (Form IV) finished 13th and Josh Brogi (form V) finished 22nd of the 120 runners participating. [The first five runners on a team score points for the team.] Robert Lesher (Form V) and Will Stubner (Form IV) were right behind Josh. The MS runners didn’t fare as well but our first three finishers were: Nick DeCarlo (Form II), Arthur Hicks (Form I) and Stephen Hand (Form II). Well done runners!

  • Panthers Win MAWL Championship

    Posted February 10, 2016

The Varsity wrestling team hosted the Mid-Atlantic Wrestling League Championships last Saturday. Twelve Abbey wrestlers were entered in the tournament and eleven earned medals. Behind that kind of dominate performance the Abbey wrestlers won the MAWL, a new banner will be hung in the gym over the summer. Aiden Dwyer (Form V) and Pablo Ruiz (Form VI) both earned gold medals; Hollis Howe (Form III), Matt Borden (Form VI), Clay Rosica (Form VI),Harrison Howe (Form VI), and Nate Dangle (Form VI) all earned silver medals; and Ryan McFeeters (Form III), Gary Simms (Form VI), Cuatro Johnston (Form VI), and Josh Paniagua (Form III) all earned bronze medals. Clearly this victory was a team effort. On the season: the Varsity wrestling team’s record was 14 wins, 6 losses, and 1 tie. They defeated all seven of the MAWL teams: Maret, St. James Episcopal, Potomac, St. Andrew’s, Washington Latin, Jewish Day and Georgetown Day. They only lost to far larger schools; Episcopal, St. John’s (twice), Bullis, The Hill School (PA), and Potomac (yes they split with them). And they tied Boy’s Latin of Baltimore.
