Entrance Exam Inclement Weather Notice
In the event of bad weather prior to a scheduled entrance exam, please call 202-269-2379 for a recorded message updating the status of the exam. In most cases, the exam will continue as scheduled except in cases of extreme weather conditions. Families are encouraged to assess their local weather conditions in deciding whether to attend the exam. Those who choose not to attend will be rescheduled for the next available exam without penalty.

Testing & Application
St. Anselm's conducts its own entrance examination for all prospective students. The examinations will be given on the following Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at St. Anselm's:

  • December 8, 2007
  • January 12, 2008
  • February 2, 2008
  • March 1, 2008

If vacancies exist after these tests are given, individual exams will be scheduled on an ad hoc basis.

Please submit your Application for Admission before the date of the entrance exam. The complete application includes:

  • Application for Admission *
  • Personal statement
  • $35 application fee, payable to St. Anselm's Abbey School
  • Official transcripts from current school**
  • Recommendations from the applicant's current Math and English teacher(s)**

*Please note that both parents must sign the application unless official documentation is submitted showing legal proof of sole custody.

** Recommendations and transcripts should arrive under separate cover from applicant's current school and need not arrive prior to the entrance exam. However, the applicant's parent(s) are responsible for ensuring that all documentation is received by the Office of Admissions in a timely fashion. Transcripts and recommendations must be mailed directly by the applicant's current school.

If the entrance exam scores are promising, the applicant and his parent(s) will be invited to an interview with a member of the Admissions Committee. When the applicant's file is complete (including transcripts and recommendations), the Committee will make its final decision.

Registration & Enrollment
When an applicant is notified of acceptance, a registration form is enclosed. When returned, this form will reserve a place for the student. An enrollment contract is then sent; when the signed contract is returned with a $750 deposit (non-refundable after April 1, 2008, but credited toward tuition) the student is fully enrolled in our program.

Financial Aid
St. Anselm’s Abbey School has a limited amount of financial aid available for families who are not able to pay the full tuition. Families requesting financial aid are asked to complete the Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS) and send it to School and Student Service (SSS) for Financial Aid by February 1. St. Anselm’s will send a PFS to an applicant upon request; or it may be found and filled out online at http://www.nais.org/financialaid/sss.

Families also must submit their most recent IRS 1040, including all schedules, and 2007 W-2 forms directly to St. Anselm's by February 15, 2008.

St. Anselm’s Abbey School takes into account the income and assets of all the adults who are responsible for a child’s education. If a child’s parents are separated or divorced, both parents must submit the financial aid application materials.

Based on these reports and the school's resources, partial tuition grants are given. Families are notified of financial aid decisions by early March.

The Archdiocese of Washington offers limited need-based financial aid to students attending Catholic schools. Application deadlines are December 7th for high school applicants and February 15th for middle school applicants (applications available at www.adw.org).

St. Anselms Abbey School admits students of any race, color, national or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. St. Anselm's Abbey School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin in the administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, athletic or other school programs.
