St. Anselm's Abbey School, located in Washington, D.C.,
is a private, Catholic school for young men in grades 6 through 12. The school was founded in
1942 by the monks of St. Anselm's Abbey, a Benedictine monastery that had been founded in 1924
by members of the Order of St. Benedict under the
auspices of Fort Augustus Abbey in Scotland.
The Benedictines have been educators for almost 1,500 years. Since St. Anselm's first
class graduated from the school in 1946, some 1,100 students followed, going on to continue their education
in many of the nation's finest and most selective colleges and universities.
We are a small school, with 242 students currently enrolled for the 2007-2008 school
year. Our small size allows for classes with no more than 25 students, thus creating an intense and intimate
educational experience for each.
Our faculty-student ratio is also excellent - about one teacher for every five students. That way, each student at St. Anselm's is given more individual attention than he might have been given elsewhere.
Our small size does not, however, reduce the number of classes we offer. The school and monastic buildings are situated on a hill surrounded by 40 acres of woodland in Northeast Washington, D.C. |
