We believe an Abbey education is a profound investment in your son's future. We also believe that financial constraints should never stand in the way of a qualified, motivated student joining our brotherhood.
Currently, 40% of St. Anselm’s students receive tuition assistance, with the school awarding over $1.4 million in need-based aid annually. If you feel that a St. Anselm’s education might be beyond your family's means, we strongly encourage you to apply for financial aid. We are here to partner with you!
Unlike many independent schools, St. Anselm's builds the vast majority of your son's academic and student life experience directly into the cost of tuition. Your tuition covers:
All required textbooks and daily school supplies (notebooks, planners, etc.)
Test fees for all national exams and AP exams administered at school
Retreats and required field trips
Athletic activities and extracurriculars
Gym uniforms and House shirts
Student accident insurance and graduation expenses
Additional Costs to Anticipate:
Optional Hot Lunch Program
Commuter Shuttles
International trips and the Form V Kairos retreat
Optional social events (dances, tag days, etc.)
(Note: The Abbey partners with Blackbaud's Smart Tuition to offer families a variety of flexible payment plans.)
Financial aid applications for the 2026-2027 school year are due February 1, 2026.
We partner with School and Student Services (SSS), a service of the National Association of Independent Schools. SSS applies a consistent and objective formula to estimate the amount of money a family should have available to contribute to their child’s education. St. Anselm’s uses this estimate, as well as the school’s budget and financial aid policies, as a starting point for financial aid awards
Steps
Log into SSS and complete the financial aid application: Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS). St. Anselm’s code is 6316.
Upload the following documents to your SSS portal:
Your most recent completed federal tax return (for most families this will be 2024 tax return)
2025 W-2 forms and 1099 forms
2025 Form 1098 (mortgage statement), if applicable
Important!
Apply on time! Financial aid funds are limited and there is never enough money in our financial aid budget to satisfy the financial need of all the applicants.
Applications submitted after the February 1 deadline will be accepted but may have to be placed on the financial aid waitlist.
Complete your application fully and accurately. Incomplete applications take more effort and time to process and will not be prioritized even if they are submitted on time.

By February 1, 2026. Start your application as soon as you think there is any chance your family will choose St. Anselm’s. Do not wait until your son is admitted to apply for financial aid. Often financial aid is all distributed if you apply too late.
Financial aid and merit aid. St. Anselm’s dedicates most of its aid dollars to those students who have a demonstrated financial need. Less than 10% of the aid dollars are set aside for merit. Merit scholarships do not require an additional application. All students are considered for a merit scholarship from the pool of applicants.
If you fully completed your financial aid application on time, your financial aid award will be reflected in your enrollment/re-enrollment contract. If you applied late or if the application was incomplete by early February, you will be notified of a financial aid offer at a later date. In this case, your enrollment contract may not reflect your financial aid offer.
Yes, all families must submit an application annually in order for their son’s grant to be renewed. Since a family’s economic and financial circumstances change from year to year, our financial aid committee must review the family’s financial need qualifications each year.
Yes, the process is the same: both new and returning families must complete the Parents Financial Statement and submit supplemental materials by early February.
Families may apply after February 1. However, preference is given to those families submitting their applications by the deadline, and there may be no funds available for late applicants.
St. Anselm’s expects both parents to supply financial information and to contribute to the cost of their child’s education. In case of sole custody, the custodial parent must provide documents that prove the other parent has no custodial rights over the child and no financial obligations toward the child’s education.
In general, yes. Although circumstances may differ from one family to the next, the addition of another adult often alters a family’s financial circumstances. Like most independent schools, St. Anselm’s considers total family resources in its financial aid calculations.
College funds held in the student’s name are considered student assets and are treated accordingly. The calculation is based on present value of the fund and divided by student’s years remaining in school, plus four years of college. While it may not be possible for a family to tap the principal of such funds, the existence of the funds means that more of the family’s current income is available for tuition.
